SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique, Aug. 10 -- The Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC), which is the largest coal producer in the Philippines, has offered to host the Antique provincial athletic meet in Semirara island, Caluya.
Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao told the media in her interview Thursday that per conversation with SMPC’s vice chairman Victor Consunji and other officials during her recent visit in Semirara they expressed willingness to host the provincial meet there.
Cadiao said that indeed she’s impressed with the oval track and Olympic size swimming pool of the SMPC which can be used during the meet.
“The oval track they have there is even nicer than what we have,” the governor said.
The oval track at the Binirayan Sports Complex, which the governor referred to, was also donated by SMPC just before Antique’s April hosting of the Palarong Pambansa.
Cadiao then added most probably if the provincial meet particularly swimming and athletics would be held in Semirara then it should be summer month when the seas would be more serene and safer for students to travel. (PNA)
