ILOILO CITY -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has already disbursed PHP54.9 million to 10,989 survivors of the super typhoon "Yolanda" from Western Visayas qualified to receive the PHP5,000 Presidential Assistance Fund (PAF).
In a press conference on Thursday, DSWD 6 Social Worker Officer II Lisa B. Camacho said that as of Tuesday, the recipients were among the 75,072 beneficiaries from this region.
The beneficiaries included 3,973 in Iloilo; 2,902 in Aklan; 2,396 in Antique; and 1,718 in Capiz. These recipients received their assistance directly through a cash card issued by the Land Bank of Philippines.
DSWD started the release of cash cards last May 29. There are ongoing releases of cash cards to other beneficiaries in the region, Camacho said.
She added their target was to complete the distribution on or before end of this September.
The beneficiaries are not recipients of previous government assistance, especially the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA), DSWD Core Shelter Project, National Housing Authority (NHA) Permanent Shelter project, and other housing/shelter grant from other government agencies, she said.
During the commemoration of "Yolanda " in Tacloban City last year, President Rodrigo Duterte committed to provide the PHP5,000 financial assistance in response to the appeal of some 200,000 survivors who have not received their ESA since the super typhoon hit the country in 2013.
The financial assistance was funded through the PHP1 billion Socio-Civic Projects Fund of the Office of the President. It was made available to eligible households affected by "Yolanda" in Regions 6, 7 and 8. (PNA
