Reuters - Two crude bombs ripped through a bus terminal in southern Philippines on Friday, killing one and wounding an undetermined number, in the second attack in as many months on the station, police said.

Robert Kuinisala, police chief in South Cotabato province, said a man was killed instantly when the first device exploded at about 5:30 p.m. at the terminal in Koronadal City.

Minutes later, a second bomb exploded inside a parked commuter bus, Kuinisala added.

"We've sent some people to investigate the explosions," he said, adding a group engaged in extortion activities could be behind the attacks.

"The bus company got telephone calls early in the day from a group called al-Khobar demanding protection money."

On July 7, an improvised bomb exploded at the same terminal in Koronadal City, but no one was hurt because passengers had already left the bus on which the device had been planted.

Police said Friday's twin explosion was the 10th attack on bus terminals since April on the troubled southern island of Mindanao, killing nearly 20 people and wounding close to 50.

The attacks were blamed either on Islamic rebels or groups trying to extort money from bus operators.

"The bus was a total wreck," Miguel Espanol, a passenger who broke an ankle while trying to escape from the first blast, told Reuters, adding that the bus was still on fire.

The Philippines is fighting a long-running Muslim insurgency in the south of the mainly Roman Catholic country. The conflict has killed more than 120,000 people and displaced 2 million.

Isa ang patay at pito ang nasugatan nang magkasunod na pasabugin ang bus at terminal ng Yellow Bus sa Koronadal City, Sultan Kudarat bandang 5:30 pm.

Unang sumabog ang bomba na nakalagay malapit sa comfort room ng terminal ng bus. Dito namatay ang pastor na si Winnie Boy Caritan na galing Panabo City.

Nakababa na ang apat na pasahero ng bus kaya walang nasugatan.

Batay sa inisyal na imbestigasyon, pangingikil o extortion ang nakikitang motibo sa pagpapasabog.

May pinasabog na ding Yellow Bus noong July 7 at nitong July 18.

Ayon kay Robert Kiunitala, Provincial Police Director ng South Cotabato, "Yung managements mismo. Tumawag yung a certain â€˜Al-Khobarâ€™. Nagdedemand, di pa daw nag-cocomply yung hinihingi nila. Nag-alert kami pero nakasingit pa rin sila.â€

May ikatlo pang pagsabog. Pero, ito'y mga bagahe na pinasabog ng mga bomb expert sa hinalang may lamang bomba.

Naalarma din ang mga dispatcher ng isa pang terminal, ang Holiday Bus.

May isang bagahe na naiwan sa isang bus at upang makasiguro ay pinaputok na rin ito ng mga otoridad

â€œYung mga K-9 natin, inupuuan din yung ibang baggages. Siyempre may indication na possible IED (improvised explosive device) kaya pinasabog na rin namin yung mga naiwan na bagahe," giit pa ni Kiunitala.

Sa ngayon ay patuloy pa rin ang ginagawang imbestigasyon ng mga otoridad habang itinataas ang alerto sa lahat ng dako ng Koronadal City.

Sugatan sina Danilo Montefrio konduktor ng bus, Modista Aurego, Jerome Gacita, Daisylyn Gacita, Josie Alo at Emmanuel Jamilago.

Tatlong minuto pagkatapos ng pagsabog sumunod namang pumutok ang bomba sa loob ng papaalis na bus papuntang General Santos na may plate number MVR 278.

It's sad to hear that a pastor was killed in that beastly act of violence.
