Thousands of tourists, residents and visitors continuously flock here to participate in the nine-day
“Raniag†Vigan City Twilight Festival 2012 that kicked off Oct 26.
Tuesday night, the visitors crowded the candle floating spectacle at the historic Mestizo River at Celedonia Garden in Barangay Beddeng, Vigan City. The event coincided with an acoustic competition.
Mayor Eva Marie Medina is elated at the continuing success of this year’s "Raniag Twilight Festival".
“This year’s festival is filled with various exciting events and activities that will induce positive impact to our economy and our tourism industry,†she said.
The festivities kicked off with the groundbreaking of the Vigan Conservation Complex in Barangay San Julian Sur; Halloween street dancing participated by eight contingents last Oct 27; parade of floats with at least 30 participants and battle of the bands last Oct 28; Halloween costumes fun run and trick or treat last Oct 29; candle floater offering at Mestizo River last Oct 30; flight of sky lantern last October 31; and Halloween Parties in Vigan on Nov 1 and 3.
“The festival is being held to offer thanksgiving to the Lord and to dramatize the commemoration of our departed kin,†she said.
"Raniag" is an Ilocano term which means light (sic).It connotes that the light that we offer to the Lord in the thanksgiving; the beacon that symbolizes our love for our departed kin; and the warmth of the bonding renewed in reunion held during this time of the year," the mayor said.
