The
commercialization of cocoa and coffee which had initially been liberalized in Cote d'Ivoire, will henceforth be "exclusively" carried out by the state.
This decision was announced on Monday through a presidential order given by the country's incumbent leader Laurent Gbagbo.
"The purchase of coffee and cocoa from producers will from now on be exclusively carried out by the state on the entire national territory at a price determined by the government in the beginning of each buying period," this was indicated in an order read on national television, RTI.
Cocoa, which Cote d'Ivoire is the first producer in the world, and coffee are the main sources of revenue for the country.
The statement further stated that exportation of coffee and cocoa will be done by the state or people who have been given an exportation licence by the government.
It will be recalled that by end of January, Gbagbo's rival Alassane Ouattara who is recognized by the international community as the legitimate president-elect, suspended exports of cocoa and coffee in order to starve Gabgbo of cash to run his government.
