The 21 units of smuggled used motor vehicles seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu while being transported form Cagayan de Oro to Cebu City last September were forfeited in favor of the government.
The decision penned by Cebu Customs District Collector Ronnie C. Silvestre early this month said the person claiming to be the consignee’s representative could not present documents that would show that the vehicles are registered with the Land Transportation Office.
The Port of Cebu issued the warrant of seizure and detention against the vehicles upon the recommendation of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group which apprehended the shipment while being unloaded from MV Asia china and mv Asia Hongkong of the Trans Asia Shipping Lines.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service also issued an alert order against the vehicles for violation of the Tariff and Customs Code. (PNA)
