In the last few years, it has been a fad among Japanese college students and professionals to study English while taking an overseas tour to upgrade their academic and career credentials. The length of time ranges from one week--when they simply need to test if their English skills are sufficient for them to go around in a foreign land--to one year--when they need to prepare for English proficiency tests or acquire a working-level English competence.
Their popular destinations are the US, Australia and England. With the economic downturn, the growth of this market is being hampered by the prohibitive cost.
When I floated the idea of offering the same service at half the price in the Philippines, there is great interest. The consideration is not only the cost but also the captivating sceneries of Bohol. Depending on the desire and requirements of the clients, I would like to test this project initially in Cebu and Tagbilaran.
When I looked up the internet on the subject of English study tours, I found out that there are already a few schools catering to such clients in Cebu. Most of them are run by foreigners. But the market in Japan is a huge market, and so I want to test the waters.
To get this project on track, I need the participation of those who are willing to teach as well as coordinate the ground logistics--including accommodation, classroom sessions, and tour activities. My time frame to jumpstart this project is the latter half of this year, from June. Eventually, if we get the critical mass of students, we will set up our own language school.
