MANILA, Philippines - Japan's Haruhiko Kuroda has been unanimously reelected as President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) by its board of governors, the Manila-based development lender said on Thursday.
Kuroda has been ADB president since Feb 2005, and his new five-year term will run from Nov. 24, 2011. He is the eighth president of the ADB; all have been Japanese.
"While countries in Asia and the Pacific have made remarkable progress since I first joined ADB over six years ago, we must not forget that the region is still home to hundreds of millions of the world's poorest people," Kuroda said in a statement.
"There is still much work to be done." --
