The American economy is somewhat under a sloop, some say it is due to the fiscal spending; the Billions of dollars spent in the Iraq War. However, the American economy has been known to bounce up from such predicaments.

I know that the Philippine economy is surging, and this surge manifests in a greater Peso-to-Dollar equivalence. Our economy is growing at 7%! That is massive! I can only hope that the Peso stabilizes; growth stabilizes and maintains its course until we become a 1st world nation.

I do agree. The country has boomed because of the GMA administration.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Blue,

Our home visit was quite very expensive considering to the very low  Dollar and Euro rates. In MIA was very less  but in Tagbilaran it raises for about 50 centavos lang. Perti gjod nahong panggulitawo sa tig-baylo to have it higher bisan pag dako imo pabaylo-an- no chance gjod. 1 Dollar - 40.50Pesos ug ang kilo sa pasayan is 400 Pesos. And in Bohol Beach Club overnight is the Standard room is 79 $ without breakfast. We have lot of foreigners already living in Bohol and the prices is not anymore affordable to some of our co Pinoys.  Lisod gjod!

Bambi Good comment.

I have other friends who live here also as permanent residents and the buzz among some of them is if the peso rate keeps going down they will have to eventually be going back home ward bound.
The salary has not increased but the prices here are now at $1.00 for a plastic 1 litre of coke.
You people have to realize some people do not make enough here in one day to even buy that one bottle of coke.
Most contracts are good for 6 months of employment.
Christmas time there were plenty at the malls but  just right after you can really see the big difference.
I use to have wait in fairly long lines a few months back but now around 7PM you can cruise up to any checker and be the first one waited on.
There are still plenty natives complaining about crisis.
Even I have been staying home more often.
My bills are sky high and we live simple.
A guy from Canada was telling me at BQ Mall last night that his dollar from his country was better then mine?

Normally when i visit in Canada I end up with a higher exchange but not much higher.

The resorts are not cheap like they were just a year ago here.

Even a van hire to Panglao is P500.00 and up.

Gas here is at a phenomenal price.

Next week the tricycle rates will be increased to P7.00, but I am already paying more then that.
I have noticed tricycle drivers are also refusing to ride those persons who are living just too far away for the gas.
We do have a glitch in the economy here but no matter what people do still go out and spend.

hi pepz,
kana pag ubos sa dollar naay advantage likewise disadvantage,
i try to explain ok?

kon mo ubos ang foreign currency- it means our peso incline to higher value
we are able to cope up a little bit the so called "inflation rate"
example.: ang Poland , 1Euro-equivalent to how many thousand of their currency na
meaning gamatoy kaayo ug value ilahang kuarta, mao usab hinungdan nga wla sila ma
qualified sa European currency,

imagine pepz ha,kini basihe, even ang Spanish "pesetas" ubos rag value sa atong pesos
naghinayhinay na kita ug compete sa foreign currency and that means our economic growth
is gettin better na, if and only if things would get to "stable" level, theres a tendency
that our prices would be cheaper na pod.

we are then trying to accumulate our standard, it really means a lot to our country.

disadvantage:
we pepz living abroad whos trying to help the family across the miles would literally see it
differently hence we have to double the amount to be send out there,
say instead of 100Euro which before reaches to almost 7000pesos
we have to make it 150Euro if we try to maintain the amount we usually send them.

more nxt time ok?

In economics, the inflation rate is a measure of inflation, the rate of increase of a price index (usually some form of consumer price index). Equivalently, the rate of decrease in the purchasing power of money.

It's used to calculate the real interest rate, as well as real increases in wages, and official measurements of this rate act as input variables to COLA adjustments and Inflation derivatives prices.

The rate is usually expressed in annualized terms, though the measurement periods are usually different from one year. Inflation rates are often given in seasonally adjusted terms, removing systematic quarter-to-quarter variation.

here are two general methods for calculating inflation rates - one is to use a base period, the other is to use "chained" measurements. Chained measurements adjust not only the prices, but the contents of the market basket involved, with each price period. More common, however, is the base period reference. This can be seen from inflation reports from the "relative weight" assigned to each component, and by looking at the technical notes to see what each item in an inflation basket represents and how it is calculated.

Philippines' inflation rate at 6.6 pc in 1999
Asian Economic News,  Jan 10, 2000
MANILA, Jan. 5 Kyodo

The Philippines posted a 6.6% inflation rate for the whole of 1999, significantly lower than 9.8% recorded in 1998 and below last year's 7% target rate, the National Statistics Office said Wednesday.

The office said December's inflation, on a year-to-year basis, increased slightly to 4.3%. For November, the figure was 3.9%.

In December, commodities recorded slightly higher inflation, while other groups either fell or remained unchanged, the office said.

The December rate for food, beverages and tobacco slightly increased to 0.6% compared with 0.1% in November. For clothing, the figure edged up to 4.9% from November's 4.8%, the office said.

To look at the bright side like some of us here, for me my $ is still a lot higher exchange to PH peso compared to an exchange to Euro. As of now, if we travel anywhere in Europe, it's so strange to see when exchanging, feels like we're ripped off right in front of our very own eyes.
On the other hand, if we talk good economy in the Philippines which makes $ rates low, I hope lowering prices will also be done. If this will happen, I would say I'm happy, it's fair. But since prices are still going up, I'm still a little bit puzzled!

1$ is equivalent to-1,955Euro-they need almost 2Euro for 1Dollar (item)

in this case , dollar is still on the peak  ;) (Europe)

but in the Phils. say: if 1Euro-69-70pesos while
                                1$ - is only 59-61pesos

we cant change the prices abruptly coz it depends upon  on the economic development of our country.
there are so many things to be considered before we can go through some changes.

slowly but sure ;) ;D

Hi Blue, I know what you mean. Pero this is what I notice lang ha, as soon as the dollar rate exchange goes up, all prices goes up in just a matter hours or a day.
But how come, when the $ exchange rates are declining, the prices never go down, instead it's getting higher. So that's what really get me confused?
If you ask all filipinos who are sending US $ to Pinas if they are mad about what's happening now, of course they will. However, if there's a balance between the two, $ exchange goes down - prices goes down, I don't think they will mind at all. Some might even wants to go back and work there or invest more or put up businesses there by themselves. If that time will come, that's when I can call, economic in the philippines are much much better!
Well, I'm very patient, so ok, I'll wait for a few years maybe it will turn the corner and see if it will really change. I just hope not too long enough that my hair turns white.
