He said to me (in his very soft and grandfatherly voice), "Ondoy BranBran, ajaw gajod pagastogasto daghan kai dali ra ma wa ang kuwarta. If you got no money, den you got no honey. No money, no honey!" bwahahahaha!
Perting katawa gajud mi duha.

Unsa pa ! When I was in college, they say "Bahalag Saging Basta Loving". TOINKS ! Maybe I was a little ambitious. I don't consider money to be everything but it is a great tool to have in life. Alangan man ug pabug-at ra ka to those people around you. Soon, even those who love you dearly would buckle under that burden. Mas maayo pud nang you can stand on your own, and if you have more to spare, then you have a choice to share. If you don't have anything, you can't share anything. Although it has to have a balance too. Anything in excess is dangerous.
Anyway, this brought up a short anecdote Mama told me. During my Papa's heyday, he loved to "treat" people. Even total strangers. Hi personal favorites were those old merchants who sell things door to door. No not the expensive stuff. Fishwoman with her bucket of fish, the taho guy, the balut guy, down to this older woman who was selling this wood carved storage things. Papa would buy them out and give their stuff to his friends or to our relatives. He bought out a taho guy once and I swear I wasn't gonna eat Taho for a year ! then there's the balut guy. He bought everything and called the istambays and gave them free balut.
Mama told him that he was very "pasikat" and "hambugero" and to stop spending money. He said "Dili man nako magasto-an or mabangkahan ang Ginoo, sa iyaha nalang mga anak ko mo-bangka". So for Papa, that was his way of thanking God and making his fellow man happy. Buying in excess of what he needs and sharing it to the family , friends and neighbors. To the merchant, he was a blessing , to the istambays, a free snack and sometimes, when he buys out the entire bucket of fish (ginamos, bolinaw etc), our family and few neighbors get a nice dinner. :-)
