"Whenever we see a piece of high quality contemporary jewellery, we jump on it," says Francois Curiel, head of Christie's jewellery department.
"Our clients search out one-of-a-kind pieces that impress you visually with their exquisite beauty and hold an allure for their unique design," says Nazgol Jahan, worldwide jewellery director at auctioneers Phillips de Pury, which has held solo exhibitions of artist jewellers, Daniel Brush and Frederic Zaavy.
Mr [Viren Bhagat] regularly sells precious pieces via e-mailed sketches. He maintains that
jewellery is a profitable long-term investment. "One of my clients told me that three years ago 60 per cent of his wealth was tied up in the stock market. Today, that figure is 20 per cent and he is looking to jewellery to make up the difference," says Mr Bhagat.
