The global economic slowdown won’t stop Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) companies from expanding here, Indian Ambassador to the Philippines Rajeet Mitter said recently.
“The BPO sector is booming. Despite the crisis, we are still expanding,†the Indian diplomat said in an interview during the visit of Indian Navy’s largest ship, the INS Jyoti, which left the country over the weekend.
The ambassador echoed various financial analysts and said with its healthy finances, the Philippines remains a good investment site for Indian companies.
“The Philippine economy is doing well. A lot of economies are having negative growth, the Philippines is having a positive growth even with this recession,†Mitter said.
“This is the perfect time for us to get together more closely and explore more the opportunities,†he said.
Mitter said 20 Indian BPO companies continue to operate in the country even with the crisis, among them Infosys, Wipro Technologies (Western India Products Limited), and the Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS).
“They are all doing well. I don’t expect any downturn (in their investments),†he said. - PDI
