Everything But Arms (EBA)
This EU trade strategy was approved in 2001 and was designed to help some of the world’s poorest countries develop their economies. Under the scheme, the Union agreed to grant duty-free and quota-free access to the EU’s internal market to all products from the world’s 48 least developed countries. The only exception to this rule was the arms trade, hence the initiative’s name. Supporters of the scheme say that it shows the Union is leading the way in efforts to create a fairer global trading system. --
