Local biscuit manufacturer Monde MY San Corp. has inked an agreement with Japanese confectionery product wholesaler and retailer Yoshiya Co. Ltd., enabling the Philippine firm to export its products to Japan.
With the deal in place, Monde MY San can offer its Sky Flakes and MY San Grahams to the Japanese market. These products, the company said in a statement yesterday, were
the specific brands that Yoshiya chose to market because of their quality and taste.“We forwarded samples with the required ingredients and waited for [Yoshiya’s] approval before we proceeded,†Monde MY San export officer Jesusel Santos said.
Santos did not specify how much the initial shipment was worth and how big the volume was.
The partnership was forged through the guidance of food expert Makoto Nakamura, who got acquainted with the Monde MY San brands at the International Food Exhibition (Ifex) Philippines in 2008.
Nakamura visited Ifex 2008 to identify Philippine manufacturers that had the potential to make it in the Japanese market.
Following initial talks with Monde MY San executives, Nakamura introduced the company to Yoshiya.
