A detention prisoner was found lifeless inside his cell Friday midnight in an apparent case of suicide.
The victim was identified as one Romeo Tarac, 56, married, a Leyte native who was a resident of Barangay Jandig, Maribojoc.
PO1 Michael Armeldez of the Maribojoc PNP told Station DyTR that Tarac’s body was discovered hanging about 11 pm last Jan. 30.
Tarac used the cord of his short pants for his final act by tying one end to the window grill in the comfort room and then tying the other end around his neck.
It was learned that the guards discovered the suicide when they noticed that the water from the faucet kept running.
When Tarac was not in his cell, the guard on duty went to the comfort room and found him kneeling but with the cord tied around his neck.
The victim was facing a case for frustrated homicide for stabbing one Pastor Arocha of Maribojoc. He was detained last Jan. 15 after he voluntarily surrendered for the crime committed.
Days before the suicide, Tarac had been very silent in his cell.
It was learned that the victim had been separated from his wife. The burial preparations were undertaken by town officials.
Another shocking suicide that preludes Tarac’s was that of Cansague Barangay Kagawad Edwin Cruza, 28, in the town of San Isidro.
He was found with a rope around his neck. He was rushed to a hospital in Tagbilaran City, but was declared dead on arrival.
It was learned he had a fight with his wife prior to the incident.
