History repeats itself.
Reminiscent of the infant stage of Bohol’s oldest tournament – the Maribojoc Christmas Basketball League (MCBL), the rivalry of Goodah and Sesame, who will see action tonight at the Maribojoc Sports and Recreation Center, will be put to test as both tandems exchange the spheroid for this year’s Maribojoc Summer Basketball League (MSBL) crown.
It may be recalled that during the first three years of the MCBL, Kahayag and Exaltacion were perennial rivals. The former is Sesame’s older brother while the latter is Goodah’s version of the same.
Kahayag, however, dominated the crown for three straight years.
The thrill-packed game tonight is a repeat performance as both lorded it over the other in previous encounters outside this summer edition of the league (MCBL) which will mark its golden anniversary come 1910.
The Goodah players enter the sports center tonight with the sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. If they lose tonight, they will bid adieu to their desire to clinch the championship plum.
If Goodah wins, a rubber match will extend the sportsfest the next day. After all, as the old folks say: “Lingin man ang bola.â€
Bood and Punsod stake their luck in the first game for a third place finish.
The cage hostilities blasted off May 10, this year. Ten teams vied for the coveted title. Three tandems went merry-go-round in the Midget Division. The tots, some of them, experiencing competitive basketball when they joined the 1st Bohol Community Children’s Games 2009, a project of the Philippine Sports Commission thru the intercession of Mayor Jun Evasco.
The junior aspirants for the title include Kalubihan, Lincod, Jandig, Bayacabac Cabawan, Anislag, Punsod, Bood, Goodah and Sesame St.
This season’s summer games, originally a brainchild of the then DepEd Mentor Tiya Ed Regidor, bank of the managerial skills of Commissioners Eduardo “Edtut†Tutor, Joel “Bobong†Valles and veteran player and coach Dodong Bangalao, UB-juniors bench mentor.
Sponsored by the municipal government thru the SK Municipal Federation steered by Councilor Albryann Redillas, the league carries the following prizes: Champion – P5,000; 1st runner-up – P3,000; and 2nd runner-up, P2,000; and 3rd runner-up – P1,000 plus trophies.
