Being raised in a heavily conservative Roman Catholic environment has certainly become a hindrance for homosexual couples... Don't you think so, too?
Human as they are, members of the LGBT community are capable of genuine love that stretches miles beyond the typical perception of the general public. They have the same basic needs that every other human being has. And one of these is to love and be loved in return.
But why do the religious institutions have to smite these gay and lesbian couples when they're just going about their business loving each other? They aren't harming anyone or anything! Why does there have to be a predefined bracket for human love? Why do they (religious institutions) feel that they are obliged to take control over what they perceive to be wrong? Why can't they just swallow reality? That they don't really have a say in these things! That these things really do happen! And that LOVE drives it as much as heterosexual couples--or possibly even more than them!
Furthermore, why do they insist that God despises these things when in fact they are the very institution telling us that God loves unconditionally? What an outlook!
What do you think?
Bonbon,
I stand quite moderately in this though I must admit that I will lean towards the conservative view. I have friends in college who are gay and lesbian, and I have developed a sense of respect and brotherly-love for them. I know one Filipino individual named JC who I've regarded as a 'kapatid'.
I respect humans, despite their sexual preferences, their race, ethnicity, political leaning. As human beings we are entitled to that basic right; and understanding of our multi-ethnicities, and different ways of life is key to symbiosis.
Though I respect the person, that does not mean that I condone and accept the 'ACT' of homosexuality.
It is taught to us through scripture as a grievous sin. There is a direct reference to this in scripture:
"You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." -Lev. 18:22
"Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."-1 Cor. 6:9-10
"For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."-Rom. 1:26-28
Bonbon, God does love UNCONDITIONALLY. However, there are acts referred in scripture that are abominable sins in the eyes of our Lord. Pray tell me you do know the history of Sodom and Gomorahh? And the justice that was dealt on these two sister cities?
My view on this is that we should love and respect our fellow human beings. Either they be Christian or not, straight or not. The ACT of homosexuality is a sin. And like any other sin, should be repented. It is like any sins in the eyes of God. You are Catholic and a Christian. You should already know this.
This is just my view.
