Congratulations to LGU-Loon for winning the FIRST PLACE in the 2021 Regional Level for the MALINIS AT MASAGANANG KARAGATAN (MMK) Search for Outstanding Coastal Community program of the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). The award has the accompanying prize of Php 2,000,000.00 worth of fisheries related projects.
The Malinis and Masaganang Karagatan (MMK) program of the DA-BFAR seeks to award coastal municipalities throughout the country for their efforts in protecting and conserving marine resources and environments.
The main objective of the competition is “to recognize outstanding initiatives and contributions of coastal municipalities/cities to sustainable fisheries development."
The first place winner for the regional level will receive the First Prize of P2 Million worth of fishery livelihood projects; P1Million worth of fishery projects for the second prize winner; and P500,000.00 worth of fishery projects for the third prize winner. The winner for the national level will receive P20M worth of fishery projects.
MMK has four general criteria, namely: (1) absence of illegal fishing and observance of fishing closed season, (2) establishment of protected marine sanctuary, (3) clean coastal waters without domestic and industrial wastes and, (4) effective mangrove protection and rehabilitation program.
The notice of award was conveyed to Loon Mayor Elvi Peter L. Relampagos by BFAR 7 Regional Director Allan L. Poquita, Ph.D. on February 28, 2022.
