CBS NewsTornado Leaves 15 Homeless In Canada(CBS) ELIE, CANADA At least three tornadoes destroyed homes in the central Canadian province of Manitoba on Friday, leaving 15 people homeless in one town, officials said.
There were no reports of injuries, but a ground search was under way with dogs to make sure everyone was accounted for.
"There have been sightings all around of tornadoes and funnel clouds, but Elie appears to be the hardest hit at this point," said police.
In Elie, a town of about 1,100, at least four homes were destroyed and several others damaged, leaving 15 people homeless, said Paul White, an official with the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organisation.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Wray said the weather office received three reports of tornadoes touching down on Friday night.
The storm also damaged several vehicles and tossed trucks into the ditch off the Trans-Canada Highway.
