Zamboanga police buy-bust operation nets 1 of 5 suspects in fishing boat crew massacre

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- Cops here arrested in a drug buy-bust operation one of the five sea marauders responsible in the massacre of eight fishing boat crewmen off this city, an official announced Wednesday.

Supt. Rogelio Alabata, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the arrested suspect as Midzfar Nuño, 32, of Sitio Seaside, Barangay Sangali, siuated some 25 kilometers of this city.

Alabata said Nuño was arrested around 6 p.m. Tuesday in his residence after he allegedly sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover cop.

Alabata said Nuño is listed as the number two drug personality of the Police Station 3.

He said some witnesses recognized Nuño as one of five sea marauders responsible in the Jan. 9 massacre of eight crewmen of a fishing boat, F/B NR, when taken to the Police Station 3.

The fishing boat with 15 crewmen was returning to Barangay Sangali coming from Sibuctuc Island, Barangay Limaong, when five gunmen aboard on two motorboats locally known as “jungkung” accosted them.

The sea marauders killed eight of the fishing boat crewmen around 8 p.m. in the vicinity of Siromon Island, Barangay Dita, some 42 kilometers east of the city proper.

The sea marauders spared seven other crewmen and ordered them to jump off and swim to safety.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar earlier said the eight slain crewmen were tied and killed by the gunmen.

Alabata said the arresting team recovered from the possession of Nuño three heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, marked money consisting of two PhP 100 bills and a grenade.

He said Nuño was detained pending the filing of criminal charges for his alleged involvement in the massacre of the eight fishing boat crewmen

He added that separate cases for illegal possession of explosive and for violation of Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are also set to be filed against the arrested suspect. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
