COTABATO CITY --- A 19-year old male Teduray committed suicide Tuesday in a COVID-19 facility in South Upi, Maguindanao after having been restive several days before.
South Upi Mayor Reynalbert Insular said Wednesday Benjie Udasan hanged himself inside the isolation facility.
Insular said Udasan, whose family is in South Upi, was required to undergo 14-day isolation for having been in Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat province where there COVID-19 cases.
“We are still trying to get a clear picture of the suicide incident. We assure you of utmost transparency on this,†Insular said Wednesday.
He said Udasan tested negative for COVID-19 but was asked to undergo a 14-day isolation just the same as part of their local government unit’s pandemic containment effort.
Udasan’s father, Antonio, told reporters he wants the incident investigated extensively.
Responding members of the South Upi municipal disaster risk reduction and management council said Udasan was already dead when they arrived at the scene after receiving information that someone in the isolation facility committed suicide.
