ILOILO CITY -- Proper interventions were provided to 68 children who are part of Iloilo City’s 2,811 drug surrenders during the conduct of ‘Operation Tokhang’ by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Social Welfare Officer Merlyn Gison, focal person for child and youth welfare of the Iloilo City Council for Protection of Children (ICCPC), on Thursday said that the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has reached out to children surrenderers.
“They were returned to their parents,” she said.
Individually, they were subjected to a detoxification program as they were not included in the community-based rehabilitation program of the city government here.
They were also mainstreamed in organizations in the barangays where they belong, particularly the Pag-Asa Youth Association.
Others are in school while some opted to join the Sharing Computer Access Locally and Abroad (SCALA) of the CSWDO.
These are part of diversionary activities, she said.
While minors were returned to their parents, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) continues to monitor them, according to Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the ICPO. (PNA)
