The progressive group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) has lauded the arrest of the suspected killer of Italian priest Fr. Fausto Tentorio by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Bayan secretary general Franchie Buhayan said the arrest of Jimmy Ato “is a positive development†in so far as the murder of Fr. Tentorio is concerned.
Buhayan hoped that the arrest of Ato would also lead to the arrest of the mastermind in the killing of Fr. Tentorio.
Ato was arrested by NBI agents in Region 12 after a brief gunfight in Arakan, North Cotabato Thursday, December 29.
The NBI raiding team swooped down at Ato’s residence in Sitio Mahiwakwak, Barangay Kolaman Valley.
Ato was tagged by witnesses as the man who shot Fr. Tentorio inside his church compound in Arakan Valley last October 17.
Jimmy’s brother, Robert, was also arrested during the operation.
