Dipolog City is one of the largest cities in Northern Mindanao. It is a 1st class city and is the provincial capital of the Province of Zamboanga Del Norte.

Dipolog City and Relations to Bohol:


During the 15th century, waves of settlers from present day Negros and Bohol migrated and settled in Northern Mindanao, throughout Zamboanga Del Norte, and in Cagayan De Oro Regional Valley. The Bolanons and the Negrosianos pushed inland due to the Chinese pirates that harassed their settlements; and mingled with the local populations. The language and tonation is similar in Northern Mindanao to that used in Bohol and Negros.

o really? daghan jud bol-anon sa among probinsya! mao bitaw na nga i really have a heart of Bol-anon kay i grew up with so many of them.

Yes. There were alot of inter-island exchanges even before the Spanish came. The most extensive exchange of diction in the Visayan region was when the Spaniards developed what is now present day Davao and General Santos.
The Spanish settlers brought with them Christianized Ilonggos and Cebuanos to those regions. Cebuano and Ilonggo pockets are very pronounced in Davao Region.

Also, Mindanao is considered the 'Land of Promise'. There is much riches and fortune to be made in Mindanao; plus a larger market base. Many Bolanons went off to find a better future in Northern Mindanao. During World War II, many Bolanons and Siquijorenos moved to major cities in Mindanao: Dipolog, Davao, General Santos, Cagayan De Oro, Surigao City etc, to escape the war.

One very famous Bolanon, Dr. Ting Tiongco is a product of the Bol-anon Diaspora to Davao, Mindanao.

as i've said in another thread, ive not been to dipolog in donkeys years. morag nindot na bitaw ning dipolog ron.

tig-adto ko sa dipolog sa una sa nagtinda kong tambaw. ana ko sa merkado mopwesto dayong himog mga katingalahang butang sama sa paghimo sa itlog nga piso sa usa ka pamilok lang. dayon promote sa akong tambal para sa napaakag iro, na-tetanus sa lansang ugbp. majo pud ahong kita oy.

I have never been to Dipolog, however, I would like to someday visit some of the major cities in Northern Mindanao.

I have relatives in Surigao City, Surigao as well as in Cagayan De Oro. There is a town in around Dipolog that speaks in Bolan-on diction. I forget the name; but the town was settled by people from southern Bohol and Southern Negros during the 15th century.

Kon makita ninyo ang Boulivard sa Dipolog karon makaingon gyud mo nga WOW! labi na ang sunset. Dipolog is a clean city and growing. Kon magpataka kag labay bisan upos sa sigarilyo ining dapita duna kay multa.Kon gusto kang mag jogging nindot kaayo ang Boulivard.
