Water at the Angat dam has breached its critical level and continues to deplete due to prevailing El Nino phenomenon.
Engineer Efren Esclandia, division manager of the Angat dam hydro electric power plant, said water elevation at the dam’s reservoir went by 0 .21 meters every day since the critical level of 180 meters was breached last Tuesday morning when the water level reached 179.94 meters.
Esclandia said that from 179.94 meters on Tuesday last week, the water level dropped to 179.62 on Wednesday, 179. 41 meters on Thursday and 179.35 meters on Friday.
The dam official also said that the four turbines, which supply water to the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), had already been shut down.
Esclandia, however, said that since the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) had issued a memorandum stopping the release of irrigation water to farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga, the dwindling of water reserve at the dam would now be minimized.
He also said that MWSS wawithdraws water at 36 cubic meters per second from Angat dam.
Despite this, Esclandia said the public and the concessionaires of MWSS should conserve water to prevent the speedy depletion of the water reserve at the Angat dam reservoir. - pna
