The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and an international relief distribution organization signed an agreement for the establishment of a warehouse facility inside this Freeport.

CDC President Benigno N. Ricafort and ShelterBox Philippines Chair Jess Nicdao signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) allowing the newly-launched organization to use a facility here for storage of shelterboxes–boxes that contain provisions vital during calamities and disasters.

Ricafort said ShelterBox “is a charitable organization actively involved in disaster relief by providing disaster boxes containing items for emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.”

“To continue this noble cause and for a more effective delivery of its services, ShelterBox sought the help and support of CDC by providing storage rooms or warehouse to disaster boxes ready for deployment to any calamity-stricken area in the country,” Ricafort said.

He said this charitable undertaking is in accordance with CDC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

Various Rotary Clubs nationwide helped launched ShelterBox Philippines, which is the 18th international affiliate of the ShelterBox International founded by former Royal Navy Search and Rescue diver Tom Henderson in April 2000.

Nicdao thanked the CDC for providing ShelterBox a facility which is expected to provide immediate assistance to calamity-stricken areas in the Philippines because of Clark’s strategic location.

Once operational, the ShelterBox facility here will house at least 220 shelterboxes worth $ 220,000.

Last year, ShelterBox International sent disaster boxes to the country at the height of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. - pna
