A businessman was killed by a falling tree in a freak accident in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.
Chief Insp. Danilo Francisco identified the victim as Pablo Sapio, 52, who was engaged in the landscaping business.
He was killed when a 50-foot eucalyptus tree in his backyard that was being cut fell on his left leg, causing him to fall to the ground.
Sapio was rushed to the Bacolod Doctor’s Hospital but he died while being treated due to a rupture in his spinal column that resulted when he fell to the ground, Francisco said.
He added that it took several minutes before Sapio was rescued because his leg was trapped under the huge tree trunk.
Randy Lama, who was hired by Sapio along with an unidentified companion to cut the tree, surrendered to police several hours after the accident.
