Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has directed SSupt. Marietto Valerio, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), to check, verify and immediately demolish the presence of any vigilante group suspected of conducting summary execution on known criminals.
A man was found dead with several gunshot wounds early morning Wednesday along the road at Barangay Sooc, Arevalo. Witnesses claimed the victim may have been executed by a vigilante group.
The victim was found with his mouth covered with masking tapes, the hands tied and naked when discovered by the nearby residents.
However, Mabilog claimed he has no idea whatever regarding the presence of vigilantes in the city and instructed Valerio to conduct an investigation and report immediately.
The city mayor said he is assuring that if there are really vigilantes, the law will be applied with due process.
Similarly, police checkpoints will be enhanced with movable ones to be established in areas not regularly hosting the checkpoints.
