The Pacific Angel humanitarian mission formally started last Monday in Laoag City in a simple ceremony attended by members of the United States Air Force (USAF), the Philippine Air Force (PAF), local officials, the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and other concerned agencies.
Col. Essel C. Soriano, commander of the Army’s 503rd Brigade based in Lagangilang, Abra, said a day before the launching of the humanitarian mission, held were the conduct of simultaneous ground breaking ceremonies of various infrastructure projects for the 2010 Balikatan Exercises in two towns of Ilocos Sur.
The Pacific Angel humanitarian mission is a one-week combined medical, engineering, veterinary and experts workshop activity slated from February 15 to 22, 2010 in Laoag City.
“Last Sunday, we formally held the simultaneous formal groundbreaking ceremonies for the constructions of the following infrastructure projects such as the three two-room school buildings in Barangays Teppeng, Cadanglaan, and Marnay, all in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; two-room school building and a flood control facility in Barangay Pias, and a health center in Barangay Baluarte, all in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur,†Soriano said.
â€These infrastructure projects will be finished for a period of 31 days,†he added.
Joining Soriano in leading the simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies of infrastructure projects was Commodore Allan Stratman from the US Forces contingents.
According to Soriano, these infrastructure projects were pre–activities for the Engineering Civic Action Program (ENCAP), one of the two major parts of the humanitarian and civic assistance program for 2010 Balikatan exercises.- PNA
