TUGUEGARAO CITY -- The government of Tuguegarao City has signed into law its Gender and Development (GAD) Code upholding the universal recognition of both men and women as full equal partners in development and nation building.
City Council Ordinance No. 30-2017, also known as the GAD Code of the City, and sponsored by City Councilor Danilo L. Baccay, was signed during the regular session here Tuesday.
Baccay said passing the ordinance would help protect, promote and fulfill women's rights and equalize the gender relations of its male and female constituents.
The councilor also appreciated the efforts of the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao (ZCCT) for submitting resolutions recommending the establishment of women’s desks at the Tuguegarao City Hall, Tuguegarao City People’s General Hospital, and all the barangays in the city.
The organization’s efforts to provide medical care and attention to pregnant inmates and their newborn were also lauded.
The ordinance also calls for the city government to work toward strengthening its partnership with civil society organizations to boost promotion and protection of women’s and children’s rights. (PNA) NOVEMBER 2017
