Tricycle driver arrested for illegal drugs
« on: November 17, 2010, 05:42:16 PM »
The relentless campaign against illegal drugs in the province is continuously paying off.

Police arrested a tricycle driver for alleged possession of illegal drugs while plying his route in Orani town late Monday afternoon.

Inspector Romeo Valencia, Orani deputy police chief, said they nabbed Leo Berbon, 26, of Barangay Paking in Orani after they found in his tricycle four heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected dried marijuana fruiting tops.

Valencia said they have been receiving reports for a month of the alleged illegal activities of Berbon using his tricycle in the drug trade.

After continuous monitoring and through the help of informants, police pounced on suspect in Barangay Centro Uno around 5:10 p.m.

When lawmen asked the suspect to present the registration papers of his tricycle, Berbon opened the compartment of the tricycle.

From the compartment, police officers noticed a bulging suspicious-looking empty cigarette pack, Valencia said.

When police opened the cigarette pack in the presence of barangay officials, they discovered that the pack contained four heat-sealed plastic sachets of dried marijuana fruiting tops, the deputy police chief said.

Berbon admitted that the illegal drugs were in his tricycle but denied owning it.

The suspect is now facing charges for violation of Section 11 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. (PNA)
