TF Asis to demolish houses of professional squatters
ILOILO CITY, July 2 (PNA) -– The Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Settlers (TF Asis) is set to demolish the eight houses of professional squatters along the waterways going to Budburan Creek in Brgy. Alalasan, Lapuz district after the families were discovered to transfer from a nearby private lot to the declared danger zone.
TF chief Engr. Robert Dumanil said the danger zone area was vacated last year by 18 informal settler families and relocated to the River Plains Subdivision in Brgy. Lanit, Jaro district. However, a new set of informal settlers put up their houses in the vacated area as allowed by brgy. captain Maricon Sompio.
Dumanil said they will be forced to implement the provisions of Republic Act 7279 and a memorandum circular 98-202 of the late Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jess Robredo regarding the proliferation of professional squatters and the involvement of local officials especially the punong barangays in allowing squatters to live in the recognized danger zones.
The area is known to be under water for several weeks spawned by heavy rains and dangerous for children to play.
Dumanil said the city government declared the area not fit for residential and relocated the early families to safer grounds and relocation sites. (PNA)
