An estimated 200,000 visitors have arrived in this mountain resort 250 kilometers north of Manila for their Christmas vacation and are finding this city's cool weather perfect for their holiday activities.
Gabby Keith of the city tourism office (CTO) said the estimated number of visitors still does not include the more than 2,000 members and officials of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Luzon chapters attending their regional conference as well as the nursing students who just had their recent board examinations.
Many visitors normally spend Christmas in this cool city which has an average temperature of 14 to 23 degrees celsius.
Keith said hotels and restaurants in keeping with the Christmas spirit are giving discounts as well as improved services to attract more tourists to the city.
An indication that tourists' number had ballooned in the past few days was the apparent shortage in taxi units plying the city streets.
To date, the most frequented places here are parks and malls. The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) has tightened the security measures since December 16.
