Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena said that unless he is asked by one of the parties involved, he will keep his hands off the threat of ship owners to hold a transport holiday on March 1.
â€As a general policy, I do not get involved in disputes unless one of the parties asks me to get involved. If the shipping companies ask me to get involved, then I have to go,†the mayor said.
â€It’s very hard for an outsider to be involved. The contending parties both end up hating you,†he said.
Cebu City Councilor Arsenio Pacana had said he will arrange a meeting with the ship owners and the Martime Industry Authority (Marina) for a possible agreement over their gripes.
He said he may even request the mayor to join the meeting.
The mayor, however, said he will not show up unless asked by the ship owners.
â€If he can resolve it, why would I object to them having meeting†But why will I go? I got other things to do. If Pacana can do it, why would I do it?†Osmena said.
