Toyota Fortuner Found in Angeles City
« on: November 17, 2010, 05:43:53 PM »
PNA: Combined elements from La Union Provincial Highway Patrol Team and the Bacnotan Police Station recovered last Saturday a Toyota Fortuner reportedly stolen last month in Bacnotan town at the parking lot of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) casino compound in Angeles City, Pampanga, a belated report said Wednesday.

Superintendent Jose B. Macanas, head of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 1 (RHPU1), reported Wednesday that the motor vehicle (plate number ZFE 457) owned by one Engineer Santiago Ramos was one of the items stolen during a robbery that took place at the house of his brother Luis, a doctor, in Barangay Bulala, Bacnotan last October 21.

“We received information last Saturday morning that on October 24 a man who claimed to be Santiago Ramos was offering to mortgage the Toyota Fortuner for P250,000. This gave us the lead to solve the case,” Macanas said.

Police operatives were immediately sent to Angeles City, composed of a team from the Highway Patrol Group under Inspector Daniel Banan and another from the Bacnotan Police Station led by Senior Inspector Ismael Gauna. They reached the place around 8:30 p.m. of the same date and sighted the vehicle parked at the PAGCOR parking lot without occupant.

Failing to locate the bogus Engr. Ramos after hours of stakeout, the operatives retrieved the Toyota Fortuner at about 11 a.m. the next day (November 14) after proper coordination with the Angeles City Police Station.

Search of the motor vehicle yielded, among other things, a fake driver’s license bearing the name of Engr. Ramos but with a picture of another man who was later identified by witnesses as the one who was transacting the mortgage of the vehicle.

“We are now conducting diligent investigative actions to identify and arrest the individuals or groups involved in this incident,” added Macanas. “We are looking into the possible link between the Akyat Bahay gang that perpetrated the robbery/carnapping and some still unknown financiers of stolen motor vehicles operating in casinos.”

The Toyota Fortuner, now impounded at the RHPU1 office in Camp Diego Silang, San Fernando City, La Union, will be subjected to macro-etching test by the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 1 prior to its return to the rightful owner. (PNA)
