Three successive tectonic mild quakes hit General Santos City

Three successive tectonic mild quakes hit General Santos City and Davao Oriental province, both in Mindanao and Batangas area in Southern Luzon for a period of 24 hours between early Monday and early Tuesday.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) satellite office here.

Seismographs of the local Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 3.3 quake at about 1:58 a.m. Tuesday in General Santos City with its epicenter located at 42 kilometers southeast of the said city with a depth of 10 kilometers. Intensity 2 was felt in General Santos City.

Earlier, a magnitude 4.3 tremor happened in Davao Oriental province in Mindanao at 12:19 a.m. on Monday. The epicenter of the quake was traced at 88 kilometers southwest of Mati, Davao Oriental province with a depth of 17 kilometers but no reported intensity occurred.

Meanwhile, Philvocs-Sinait said a magnitude 3.2 quake occurred at 10:56 a.m. last Monday in Batangas province with its epicenter located at four kilometers southwest of Lemery, Batangas with a depth of 32 kilometers. Intensity 2 was felt in Ilijan, Batangas.

Local Phivolcs researcher Julius Galdiano said that there was no reported damages after the three mild quakes. - pna
