ILOILO CITY – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is urging residents of Western Visayas, who are interested to undergo skills training, to avail of its training-for-work-scholarship program (TWSP) this year.
TESDA 6 (Western Visayas) Director Ashary A. Banto, in an interview Thursday afternoon, said based on the absorptive capacity of Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) providers and TESDA Technology Institutes (TTIs), they can accommodate about 8,000 individuals.
“Initially, we will fund four batches per course,” he said, adding that their central office has already provided the region with initial funding.
Western Visayas has almost 200 registered programs. Based on the absorptive capacity of Western Visayas, the region will need more than PHP200 million for the entire year.
Each course, he said, has a different training cost.
Those who are interested are advised to visit the provincial offices of TESDA.
“They will be assessed based on their chosen course and will determine if they will qualify,” he said.
He added that classes have begun but the enrollment is still ongoing.
They just have to bring proper identification cards.
They also have to be 15 years old and above, which is the trainable age, according to the director. (PNA)
