(PNA) – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Region 12 topped anew the nationwide processing and distribution of private lands last year that were covered by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
Nasser Musali, DAR Region 12 director, noted in a report that they were able to distribute some 8,671 hectares of land to CARP beneficiaries within the region’s four provinces and five cities in 2009.
Region 12 covers the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat Sarangani, North Cotabato and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Kidapawan, Tacurong and Cotabato.
Musali said their accomplishment last year was reportedly the highest among the 16 DAR regional offices in the country.
He said it helped them retain their status as the topmost performing regional office for the last six years or since 2004.
From 2004 to 2008, he said they were able to distribute some 85,309 hectares of private lands to CARP beneficiaries in the region.
DAR Region 12 registered the highest accomplishment in 2005 with a distribution record of 21,028 hectares.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman credited the region for topping last year’s land distribution program and meeting anew their targets.
He said DAR Region 12 has been serving as model for the agency’s other regional units for the implementation of CARP, which expires in 2014. (PNA)
