Radio station DYRC, Cebu’s oldest radio station, signed on air again Tuesday, after being silent for more than 11 years,
DYRC would have turned 70 years old Tuesday. It was established by the Cebu Broadcasting Company, a sister company of the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC).
With its return to the airwaves, radio station DYRC will not only offer the same programming of news and public service it became famous for, but also try to attract a new audience through innovations, an official said.
Nino Padilla, who will lead DYRC’s news management, said the new management of MBC was committed to introduce technical innovations that would update the station.
After DYRC went off the air in 1999, DYXR Aksyon Radio of the Padayon Pilipino Foundation took over its frequency, promising to compete in Cebu’s crowded radio market.
But after 10 years on the air,
Aksyon Radio folded weeks ago.
Padilla said they plan to repackage the station for a new generation of listeners.
One of its technical innovations is the introduction of a 10,000-watt digital transmitter, the first of its kind in the country, said Padilla.
The station will also offer live streaming through the Internet, so it can reach audiences abroad. It will emphasize public service, rather than entertainment, he said.
Its personalities will be a mix of veteran and new broadcast journalists. Former reporter Ramil Paican will serve as the station’s production manager.
Former DYRC talent Fr. Dan delos Angeles, who served the station years ago as a reporter, will serve as one of its news anchors.
Other personalities expected to be heard on DYRC are Roel Cabanero, Dennes and Malou Tabar, Fr. Carmelo Diola, Ricky Poca, Ramil “Inday Misyel†Albano, Cebu City Councilor Alvin Dizon and lawyers Divine Marcial-Flores, Gloria Estenzo-Ramos and Antonio Oposa.
As part of its programming, DYRC said it will adopt its mother company DZRH’s flagship public service program “Operation Tulong,†which they will dub “Dangpanan.†It will focus on providing free medical, dental and legal services to the poor. (PNA)
