DAVAO CITY -- More than eight delegates to the ongoing 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree at the Energy Park in Tagum City were temporarily admitted for medication after experiencing headache, cough, colds and abdominal pains, but nothing alarming, according to Tagum Health Officer Arnel Florendo.

In a phone interview, Florendo debunked speculation the abdominal pain qas caused by water or food, saying, there was no diarrhea case.

The abdominal pain was caused by no regular bowel movement.

“The bulk of the patients had headaches, cough, colds and asthma. These are isolated cases. Nothing alarming,” Florendo said.

The patients were immediately discharged after medication. Florendo said there are eight cases of fracture and sprain due to the activities at the camp.

Of the eight, three were brought to the Regional Medical Center.

One delegate was admitted for chicken pox. The patient was put in isolation in order not to infect other delegates. The patient was already in the period of incubation when he arrived in the Philippines.

One patient, an adult Indonesian but who is not part of the official delegation, is admitted for pneumonia and diabetes.

Florendo assured the delegates of the safe facilities like toilets at the camp.

He said water tanks are regularly inspected and food sellers are being checked.

There is a monitoring team and a 24/7 staff to respond to the needs of the delegates. Florendo said there is a also a medical operation center manned by doctor on 24/7 duty.

The 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree opened Monday with close to 30,000 scouts from 20 countries converged at the Energy Park,.
