Senator Escudero Visits Abused Victim Florence
« on: November 17, 2010, 05:50:17 PM »
Senator Francis Escudero III visited Wednesday the volunteer-nurse who was raped in South Upi, Maguindanao last September 25, who is confined at the Southern Philippines Medical center (SPMC) in Davao City.

Escudero, chair of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, however, expressed dismay over the non-filing of complaint against the person who allegedly abused Florence.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the victim during her 22nd birthday Wednesday at the government hospital, he said it has been two months since the incident happened and no case has been filed against the perpetrator who remains at-large.

Escudero lamented that if celebrated cases have not been solved with the filing of appropriate charges, how much more the many other cases perpetrated on ordinary victims.

"Apparently, no case has been filed against the perpetrator," he said.

He said the country has enough laws to crime against chastity, which has a downside implementation because of the small number of law enforcers against the increasing population.

"The ratio I believe is one policeman for every 5,000 Filipinos," Escudero said.  - pna
