Security of the people in Western Visayas

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) based in Camp Delgado has assured the security of the people in Western Visayas in connection with the reported international terror threat in the country that prompted several countries in the world to issue a travel advisory to deter their citizens’ travel to the Philippines.

PRO-6 regional director Police C/Supt. Cipriano Querol, said the people here in the region has nothing to worry about because the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the region has not received any threat coming from terrorist groups.

Querol said proper security measures have been put in place even as he ordered the different provincial and city directors of the PNP throughout the region to enhance security measures in their areas to prevent terror attacks.

He said police visibility will be maintained in populated areas like malls, churches as well as beach resorts and tourist spots with the deployment of additional police forces.

Likewise, Chief Supt. Querol pushed for the implementation of the Barangay Peacekeeping Organization and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team in the city’s 180 barangays since they are the first line of defense to counter criminality.

He said the retraining of BPAT members is also a must to strengthen barangay monitoring network in reporting the presence of suspicious looking individuals or terrorists to the nearest police station.

The PRO-6 regional director also embarked on a series of crisis management seminars in the neighboring Panay provinces of Antique and Aklan to replicate his advocacy.

Last November 10, the PRO6 conducted a Crisis Management Seminar-Workshop in San Jose, Antique for local chief executives in the province led by Governor Exequiel Javier and Mayor Rony Molino of Antique’s capital town of San Jose where Director Querol discussed the concept of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team and Barangay Peacekeeping Operations. - pna
