Following the killing of a hotel guest here, Mayor Jerry Trenas wants security cameras installed in hotels and other commercial establishments.
Trenas is urging the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to pass an ordinance requiring commercial establishments to set up close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their alleys and lobbies as an added security measure.
Trenas said setting up CCTV cameras is a good security investment, especially in hotels.
Thirty-seven-year-old Ephie Ramos, a resident of Cabatuan, Iloilo, was found dead at Rm 404 of Eon Centennial Plaza Hotel on Tuesday. He succumbed to 21 stab wounds.
Trenas said Ramos' death is an isolated case.
“It does not mean that Iloilo City is not safe for visitors,†he said, noting that there were no signs of forcible entry into Ramos’ room. The culprits were allowed inside upon Ramos’ permission himself, the mayor added. - PNA
