Antique Vice Governor Rose Dimamay said that during their Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) session Tuesday they have approved a supplemental budget amounting to P14 million intended for the around 3,325 scholars of the provincial government.
Dimamay, who is the chair of the SP Committee on Education, further said that the scholars who are mostly in their college level are taking up different courses and majority are now enrolled at the University of Antique main campus and in its extensions. There are also scholars who are enrolled in the Catholic school Saint Anthony’s College.
The vice governor said that originally, the allocation for the scholars this year is only P3 million.
Each scholar is being given a budget of P2,500 per semester for their tuition fee and book allowance.
Dimamay said that since Gov. Exequiel B. Javier would like to provide opportunities for the poor but deserving students to finish their education and be able to improve their status in life that he has been sending scholars since he was even congressman of the province.
She said that in Antique there are now about 2,000 to 3,000 scholars that had been helped and graduated from the scholarship program of the province. (PNA)
