CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -- Mayor Edwin Santiago has sought the support of businessmen and other stakeholders here in sustaining the city’s development through the correct and proper payment of taxes, citing taxpayers as “pillars that drive economic growth”.

“You, as taxpayers of this city, are our pillars to make our local economy more stable and give the City of San Fernando a better capacity in implementing sustainable programs.

Thus, I am encouraging you to be with us in attaining our goals for the betterment of the city,” Santiago said in his speech during the annual taxpayers’ symposium held at the Heroes Hall Thursday.

He also thanked the private sector for helping the city government in steering the city’s economic growth and development.

“Your diligence in paying your obligation makes the city what it is today. The reality is that tax is the lifeblood of the government. Without taxes, the government cannot run," he added.

In 2016, the City of San Fernando posted a PHP1.26 billion revenue collection, which is 45 percent of the total tax revenue collection for the whole province of Pampanga.

More than 100 participants, including businessmen and economists, attended the forum spearheaded by the City Treasurer’s Office.

City Treasurer officer Mary Ann Bautista said topics discussed during the forum were the city’s tax collection process, local revenues, and assessment for next year.

Bautista also urged businessmen to file their income tax earlier.

In return, she said, the city government is creating programs to ease business registration and other processes of entrepreneurs and investors in the city.
City assessor officer-in-charge Luz Bautista, for her part, explained the upcoming property assessment updates that will be implemented next year.

On the other hand, the City Planning and Development Office discussed and presented the disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation integrated land use and comprehensive plan to achieve a sustainable and livable city. (PNA)
