City gov’t slates week-long disaster preparedness caravan in public schools
ILOILO CITY - A week-long disaster preparedness caravan has been slated this last week in all public elementary and secondary schools in the city.
The activity facilitated by the city government’s City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the office of councilor Love Joy Baronda is part of the activities in line with the National Disaster Consciousness Month celebration this July.
CDRRMO’s Darwin Papa said that they hope to cover even just 50 percent of the public schools in the city if not all of the elementary and secondary schools.
There will be lectures and presentations to better prepare them in case of disaster, he said.
The forum will be focusing on earthquakes and flooding, two of the identified hazards in Iloilo City.
Meanwhile, the CDRRMO will hold a simulation exercise this coming July 22 in preparation for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting on July 23 and 24.
The simulation exercise will focus on preparation during earthquake and mass casualty incident.
Papa said that all other activities of the CDRRMO are presently in preparation for this city’s hosting of APEC meetings in September and October. (PNA)
