Investigators are looking into the possibility that the fire that gutted the residence of former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. in Marfori Heights, this city, was deliberately done.
Inspector Rodolfo Alocelja, arson investigator of the Central Fire Station, said that they are still validating a report that a bottle with an odor of a gasoline was found at the scene.
Ampatuan’s residence was razed by fire Thursday morning which also damaged a Nissan Terrano vehicle. The incident occurred, a day after the three-month anniversary of the Maguindanao massacre.
Ampatuan, one of the accused in the Maguindanao Massacre case, also owned a multi-million peso mansion at Juna Subdivision, here.
City police spokesman Supt. Antonio Rivera, chief of the Investigation and Detection Management Section, said they are still looking into the cause of the fire.
Police reports also said that none of the Ampatuans were in the house when the fire broke out, except for a few caretakers.
This house was one of the houses raided by police and military authorities on suspicion that firearms were kept in there.
The raid happened after the Ampatuans were linked to the killings of 57 people in Maguindanao on November 23,2009. (PNA)
