S. Cotabato capitol goes ‘White Christmas’

KORONADAL CITY -- Residents here and parts of South Cotabato will get to experience a glimpse of a “White Christmas” with the unveiling this weekend of the famed annual Christmas display at the provincial capitol.

The local government completed on Friday the adornment of the provincial capitol compound’s facade along Alunan Avenue here with a glittering “winter in wonderland” theme.

Marlyn Almaden, head of the Provincial General Services Office, said they spent around P500,000 for the showcase, which is a yearly attraction for local residents and visitors of the province.

She said most of the funds were used for the Christmas decorations and materials, which included recycled items.

“We decided to reuse some materials from last year’s showcase to save on the costs,” she said in an interview.

Based on the adopted theme, Almaden said the lights and various Christmas decorations are dominantly in white.

She said the decorations include replicas of snowmen and a life-size nativity scene or belen lighted by white lanterns and Christmas lights.

“There’s no need for residents to go far and spend thousands just to experience a white Christmas,” she said.

Almaden said the annual showcase, which drew thousands of visitors these past years, is open to the public for free until Jan. 10 next year.

Aside from the showcase, the local government has lined up outreach activities, gift-giving and other Christmas-related events.(HST/PNA) DECEMBER 2017
