A three-year-old boy died while three of his siblings were hospitalized after eating a pomelo they found carried away by floodwaters in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on Thursday.
Arnold Mondejar, 3, of Barangay Astorga, Sta. Cruz, did not reach the emergency health headquarters put up by the local government to attend to the residents affected by the flash flood last Monday.
Health officer Dr. Loremie Ann Lindong, in a television interview, said the child died due to severe dehydration.
Arnold, together with his siblings, Amira, 9; Artemio Jr., 7; and Armie Jane, 5, have eaten a pomelo which they recovered from floodwaters in their barangay Thursday morning.
After eating the fruit, the four children suffered from vomiting and loose bowel movement.
Amira, Artemio Jr. and Armie Jane were rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for immediate treatment.
Their mother was in Malita, Davao del Sur to seek assistance from their relatives thereat in order to help her in providing the needs of her 10 children after they were affected by the flood.
With the incident, the municipal health office advised residents against drinking water from unclean sources particularly in areas affected by the flood. - pna
