Gov. Edwin Ongchuan approves PNC resolution granting benefits to barangay nutrition scholars

Catarman, Northern Samar - Governor Edwin Onchuan approved the resolution of the Provincial Nutrition Council to institutionalize the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the First Quarter Meeting of the Council today, March 24.

The move which was supported by SP Member Dr. Mary Ann Avalon seeks to ensure the continuity of benefits and incentives given to barangay nutrition scholars as well as to recognize outstanding performance and services.

The resolution recommended the payment of BNS monthly allowance at P300 and an additional incentive which amount will depend on the performance of the BNS: P100 if one has a satisfactory performance, P200 for very satisfactory performance, and P300 for outstanding performance.

Moreover, the resolution supported the grant of other benefits to BNS who perform their duties actively and regularly as certified by the Nutrition Action Officer, midwife and/or the Punong Barangay which include:

1. Loyalty Incentive:
        a. 10 years - P1,000
        b. 20 years - P2,000
        c. 30 years - P3,000
        d. 40 years - P4,000

2. PhilHealth Insurance Coverage
3. Medical and Dental Benefits
4. Free Legal Assistance
5. Barangay Nutrition Scholars Convention

The resolution will be endorsed to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for the enactment of the corresponding ordinance granting benefits to all BNS in the province.
